Overview
The checkout is where customers complete their purchase. In Shopify, checkout is hosted by Shopify and customized through Settings > Checkout in your Shopify Admin. The theme does not include a layout/checkout.liquid file because:
- Standard Shopify — Checkout is customized via the Checkout Editor in Admin (logo, colors, fonts, policies).
- Shopify Plus —
checkout.liquidis deprecated for most steps (sunset August 2025). Stores should use Checkout Extensibility.
How to Customize Checkout
- Go to Settings > Checkout.
- Configure Checkout style — logo, colors, typography.
- Set Checkout language and form fields.
- Configure Order status page and thank-you page.
Your theme's design tokens (colors, fonts) can be reflected in checkout by matching them in the Checkout settings.
For Merchants
- Checkout customization requires no code — use the Checkout settings in Admin.
- Match checkout colors and fonts to your theme for a consistent brand experience.
- Enable customer accounts, discount codes, or gift cards as needed.
