Overview
The Product information section (or main product section) displays the core product content on the product page: media gallery, title, price, variant picker, quantity, add to cart, and description. It is typically block-based—you choose which blocks to show and in what order. This section is the primary conversion area; placement and content directly affect sales.
Where It Appears
The Product information section is part of the product template. It appears automatically on product pages. Customize it via Theme Customizer > Product template.

- Images — Product images in a gallery (main image + thumbnails).

Metafields and Product Information
Product information can be extended with metafields for:
- Materials, care instructions
- Dimensions, weight
- Ingredients, certifications
- Custom tabs (e.g. "Shipping", "Returns")
Metafields are added in Shopify Admin > Products > Metafields. The theme must support displaying them in the product section. See Metafields & Dynamic Source.
Tabs and Accordions
Some themes use tabs or accordions for:
- Description — Full product description
- Size guide — Sizing information
- Shipping & returns — Policy summary
- Materials & care — From metafields
Configuration varies by theme; check section or block settings.
For merchants
- Place Add to cart above the fold; keep critical info visible without scrolling.
- Use clear variant labels (Size, Color); ensure options are set in product settings.
- Add a size chart block if products have sizing.
- Use sales points for trust (free shipping, returns, warranty).
- Ensure product images are high quality and multiple angles.
- Test variant selection and add to cart on mobile.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Add to cart too far down | Reorder blocks; place CTA higher |
| Missing variant picker | Add Variant picker block; ensure product has variants |
| Description too long without structure | Use headings, lists, or tabs |
| No size chart for sized products | Add Size chart block or link |
| Price not visible | Add Price block; ensure product has price |
| Sticky bar covering content | Adjust sticky add to cart or disable |
