Combined Listings Plus
Multipurpose Fashion Theme
The Multipurpose theme supports Shopify's Combined Listings feature, allowing multiple standalone products to function as a single unified product experience.
1. What is a Combined Listings App?
Combined Listings is a Shopify Plus feature that allows you to group
separate products
into one parent product interface.
Instead of managing variations (such as colors or materials) as variants
within a single product,
you can manage each variation as an individual product.
Why Use Combined Listings?
- Independent inventory per variation
- Separate URLs for each product
- Better scalability for large catalogs
- Improved control over SEO per variation
Example:
- Product A – Red
- Product B – Blue
- Product C – Green
These products are visually combined into a single product interface.
2. How to Enable Combined Listings in Multipurpose Theme
Step 1: Create Separate Products
Create individual products for each variation in Shopify Admin.
Step 2: Configure Combined Listings in Shopify Plus
Use Shopify's Combined Listings interface to link related products.
Step 3: Verify Theme Compatibility
The Multipurpose theme automatically detects Combined Listings relationships. On the storefront:
- Swatches appear for each linked product
- Switching updates the product content
- The URL changes to the selected product
3. Considerations When Using Combined Listings
Inventory Management
Each child product maintains separate inventory. Stock must be managed individually.
SEO
- Each product has its own URL
- Search engines index each product separately
- Avoid identical descriptions across all variations
Apps Compatibility
Apps that modify product forms, swatches, or AJAX cart logic should be tested. Not all third-party apps automatically support Combined Listings.
Performance
Large product groups may increase complexity. Keep variation groups clean and structured.
Common Issues
| Issue | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Swatches not showing | Products not linked correctly | Verify Combined Listing configuration |
| Wrong product loads | Inconsistent option naming | Ensure consistent option labels |
| Duplicate SEO content | Same description used | Customize each product slightly |
| Cart behavior conflicts | Third-party app interference | Test with apps disabled |
